Tips For Cleaning The Fridge

Making sure your refrigerator stays clean can be a challenge, especially if you’ve got a full house and/or a busy schedule. Here are some practical cleaning fridge tips that will keep your refrigerator organized and in great condition.

First, commit to cleaning out the fridge regularly. Every week or so, go through your fridge and throw out any items that are expired. This not only keeps your fridge smelling great, but keeps you from cooking food that isn’t good anymore. If you do this often, you won’t have to worry about a foul odor coming from your fridge, which can easily stink up the rest of the kitchen. This also keeps you from wasting food, since you’ll likely cook it before it spoils.

Now it’s time to get your shelves clean and prevent mold and mildew build-up. You can do this with a combination of:

-baking soda
-hot water
-edible-grade lemon essential oil (orange oil works well, too)
-vinegar

Mix equal parts vinegar and water in a container, along with two or three tablespoons of baking soda and a few drops of essential oil. Clear the shelves of the refrigerator and wipe each shelf with the solution, along with the inside of the doors and the egg and butter compartments.

Finally, use dishwashing liquid to clean the outside of the fridge. Mix the soap with water and wipe the outside of the refrigerator until there are no streaks. This works for stainless steel as well.

Here’s to a clean and organized fridge!
